By now, you probably know I am obsessed with music and any big events surrounding it. When Grammys day came, I was in total fangirl mode. Let’s be real: dream job would be to cover events like this for an entertainment outlet and review all things music, performances, awards and fashion. Can you image doing red carpet interviews? Ahhh.
So let’s break down the big event.
The fashion
Who showed up and in what? What fashion statements are people talking about? The next memes? … here we go.
But my favorite of the night has to go to Joy Villa and her Trump dress. Way to leave the politics at home girl!!!
The fashion might be talked about more than the awards themselves, lets be real. But here’s a recap of who won.
The big winners
Adele – Pop Solo Performance, Pop Vocal Album, Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Album of the Year
I applaud her every time she gets on stage to accept an award and perform. Her comments are so funny and she keeps things real. She even stopped mid-song tonight to restart her performance honoring George Michaels. Huge congrats to her for taking home the BIGGEST awards. Her main competition was Beyonce, and she slayed.
Twenty One Pilots – Best Pop Duo/Group
Yes, they stripped down to accept their award and I still am in denial these are the guys I stan. Everyone around them was evidently horrified… but if there’s a dress code for accepting an award, they didn’t seem to care. After hearing their cute story though, everyone was applauding. Way to be bold, boys.
“This story, it starts in Columbus, Ohio, it was a few years ago and it was before Josh and I were able to make money playing music,” he explained. “I called him up, and I said, ‘Hey Josh, want to come over to my rental house and watch the Grammys? As we were watching, we noticed every single one of us was in our underwear, and seriously, Josh said to me, and we were no one at the time, he turned to me and he said, ‘If we ever go to the Grammys, if we ever win a Grammy, we should receive it just like this” – Tyler Joseph of Twenty One Pilots.
The Chainsmokers – Dance Recording
Their first Grammy win was for their song and collab with Daya on Don’t Let Me Down. A well-deserved win.
Beyonce – Urban Contemporary Album
The queen of glitter and gold gave a moving acceptance speech worth mentioning:
“We all experience pain and loss and often we become inaudible. My intention for the film and album was to create a body of work that would give a voice to our pain, our struggles, our darkness and our history. To confront issues that make us uncomfortable. Itās important to me to show images to my children that reflect their beauty … This is something I want for every child of every race. And I feel itās vital that we learn from the past and recognize our tendencies to repeat our mistakes.”
The performances
Now onto my absolute favorite topic!
The Weekend. Vocally: it was stellar. In regards to stage design, the performance looked like something straight out of Starwars meets the IceCastles. Overall it was different, but he was great.
Ed Sheeran. My boy KILLED IT! I love a ginger with soul, a sick guitar loop and a stellar performance. Plus he sang his new song Shape Of You and everyone was swooning. Ed, I have MISSED YOU. Solid, solid performance. Come bring your cute lil self to Minnesota soon!
Beyonce. Or the queen as many call her. Her performance was something else lol the only thought I have after witnessing everything is man, she is really reflecting on life and being pregnant. It was so deep and many are interpreting it more than they should but it was intriguing nonetheless.
Some of my favorite tweets regarding her performance:
Bruno Mars. Talk about a straight up solid and sleek performance. The charisma he brought to the stage was contagious and so entertaining to watch. He had everyone in the audience grooving.
Alicia Keys and Maren Morris. Talk about girl power. Their voices individually are so strong and mixing them together was a brilliant idea. Props to whoever decided to mix them for a mashup. My favorite duo performance of the night, hands down. Their voices complimented each other so well and it was amazing vocally.
Chance The Rapper. Boy oh boy, you go. His performance was on fire! So fun to watch. As someone who didn’t know much about him prior to tonight, I’ll definitely be checking him out more and jamming. He won big tonight too. He took home Grammys for Rap Performance, Rap Album and New Artist.
And the Grammy host – James Corden?
Cheeky, adorable and one heck of a TV host. He brought a humorous flair to the show that kept it energetic and light-hearted. He even did his infamous carpool karaoke live. If they were giving out a Grammy based on best Grammy host ever, I have no doubt he would definitely win.
