Wdnesday night in St. Paul more than 1,000 people packed the Palace Theatre for Go 96.3’s Snow Show 2018. It was a night full of music by LANY, Bastille, Albert Hammond Jr. and Minnesota’s Last Import. My favorite band of the night–by far–was LANY.
The band from Los Angeles includes members Paul Jason Klein, Jake Gloss and Les Priest. They formed LANY in 2014 and in 2015 began touring America supporting acts like Troye Sivan and Halsey. Since then they’ve played festivals and toured with artists like Ellie Goulding and John Mayer. Their debut self-titled album was released in June 2017 and their latest album, Malibu Nights, was released October 2018.
Snow Show 18 was LANY’s first ever radio show and Palace Theatre was the perfect setting for it. Their indie/synth-pop vibe was well received among the crowd and everyone enjoyed their set while bouncing, dancing and singing along. My concert squad and I screamed our hearts out.
I discovered LANY last fall when I lived in NYC. I had friends who introduced me to their music and I’ve been hooked ever since. I love their style–it’s raw, vulnerable, real and so different then what you hear these days on the radio. Plus, Paul’s voice is unbelievable and “Malibu Nights” is a collection of songs that make up one of my favorite albums to date.
Not to mention their band name is an acronym for LA and NY–two of my favorite cities.
My favorite songs they performed include “The Breakup,” “If You See Her,” Thru These Tears” and “I Don’t Wanna Love You Anymore,” but they were all so good. One of the biggest highlights of the show was when fans threw roses onstage at the band. My cousin did this and it was so fun to see Paul catch them. By the time their set was over, there were dozens of flowers covering the stage.
If you don’t know who LANY is — look them up! Don’t sleep on this band, they are getting bigger and going places. You don’t want to miss out. Stream their music on Spotify and check them out on Instagram. I love their band aesthetic and the content they share.
LANY is headlining their own tour in 2019 all over the world and I can’t wait to see them again. While they aren’t playing in Minnesota, the nearest shows are in Wisconsin. You can bet I’ll be finding some way to see them and the adorable charisma they bring to the stage. A LANY road trip with my girls? I’m so down.
The headliner of the night was Bastille. The British band is most known for their song “Pompeii” and was wildly popular among the crowd. Everyone seemed to come for them and they were interesting to see. My favorite songs they performed were “Quarter Past Midnight” and “Happier.”
