Broadway’s longest running musical. A timeless story that all others are measured against. An unforgettable score and an undeniable obsession that could never die… The Phantom of the Opera is an international phenomenon that unmasks emotions and leaves audiences everywhere breathless. I had a wonderful time experiencing it’s Broadway splendor unfold onstage at the Majestic Theatre in New York City, and it was absolutely amazing.
There’s nothing like seeing a Broadway show in a Broadway theatre. Majestic Theatre is located in Midtown Manhattan, right in the heart of Times Square. It’s one of the largest Broadway theatres and has housed The Phantom of the Opera since it opened in January 1988. It’s stage has seen over 12,000 performances of the musical, making Phantom the longest-running production in Broadway history.
The Phantom of the Opera has been seen by more than 140 million people (and I feel so lucky to be one of them). It has won over 70 major theatre awards, and is still in its glory during its 29th year. I loved it. It’s a definite Broadway play to see and if you’re in New York City–a must!
Everything from the music, to the voices, the stage set up and the costumes was absolutely stunning. It’s a beautiful production so flawlessly executed. I was beyond impressed–it lived up to every expectation I had. I knew the music and story going into it and while I had seen a non-Broadway version of it before, the beauty of the spectacular classic was everything I dreamed my first Broadway experience would be.
I love it’s story of romance, revenge and unrequited love. The acting was phenomenal and scenes with the phantom were brilliantly thrilling. The bittersweet love story keeps you on the edge of your seat and it’s all because of the entire stellar Broadway cast. There wasn’t a dull moment in the theatre and I long to see it’s magical production again. Plus, I still have the songs echoing throughout my head… for the angel of music, I’d give the marvelous production an unbelievable 10/10.
