NEW: NF Perception Tour: A review of real music live

Last night I had the incredible experience of being one of 2,000 people at NF’s biggest headlining show to date. He came to Minnesota on his Therapy Session Tour and played to a sold-out crowd at the the Myth in St. Paul, MN. It was my first time seeing him and his show was nothing short of amazing. Seriously. He knows how to put on one heck of a show that is energizing and connects with the audience.

I have my adorable cousins and younger siblings to thank for getting me into his music. The main reason I gave him a listen was because I was so impressed by how much they could rap his songs word for word. Any artist that could capture their attention like that was worth my attention too. My cousins had seen NF in concert before and after hearing the music for myself, I promised I’d definitely be at his next show with them when he came to town.

The thing that I love most about NF’s music and lyrics is the fact that his music is REAL. He raps about life and doesn’t shy away from topics that deal with raw issues. NF isn’t scared to share his pain and rehash it on stage so others might find healing through his words and songs. That’s something I appreciate and respect. He’s brave and someone I have come to admire as an individual and an artist.

His music may not be for everyone, and that’s okay. That’s actually something I like about the whole real music thing. It makes everyone in the audience and the artist really connect during a performance. Like we’re all here to sing about stuff others might not relate to or understand, but we get it and that’s what matters. The thing is, I’m so over huge arena shows full of crowds who just attend because the songs are popular and on the radio. I crave the energy of smaller shows full of people who genuinely love the artist and their music. It creates the kind of experiences and moments I live for.

Being in the fourth row was awesome. We lined up a few hours prior to the concert to get close, and it was so worth it. I don’t mean to sound like a sappy fangirl (hey, that’s me), but any opportunity you have to be that close to an artist you love is the best. Concert tip: if it’s general admission, line up as early as you can. The earlier you go, the closer you’ll be to the front.

As soon as NF took the stage, the audience was captivated. He put so much energy into his performance, and you could tell he was enjoying it as much as the audience was. He performed a mix of songs from his albums Therapy Session and Mansion. He also previewed some new music and said his third album is in the works.

Not only did he sound amazing, but the production of the show was awesome too. The photographer in me was living. I loved all the lights and the aesthetics of it. There was definitely some fun concert photography moments.

The crowd was so receptive to the emotions NF was experiencing and showing on stage. I loved the diversity of it. One moment they were going all out and the next, during one of his deepest and most emotional songs, they were so somber and into it. The fans understood each moment and the backstories to every song.

NF’s concert was definitely one of my favorites. I can’t wait to see him again live and am so excited for his new music. For those who want to learn more about him, click here.
